Pension Fund
Victoria-based investment manager for British Columbia's public-sector pension plans and other provincial clients.
BCI was established under B.C.'s Public Sector Pension Plans Act in 1999 and began operating at arm's length from government on January 1, 2000. It manages assets for 33 public-sector clients, including pension plans, insurance funds, special purpose funds and an Indigenous settlement trust, across public markets, credit, private equity, infrastructure and renewable resources, and real estate (the latter largely through its wholly owned QuadReal Property Group subsidiary). Under CEO/CIO Gordon J. Fyfe it has moved heavily toward internal management and private assets, and it operates from Victoria, Vancouver, New York, London and Mumbai.

Reasons that work in interviews
4 reasons for BCI
A sustained shift toward direct investing rather than fund commitments, which materially changes what a junior actually does.
The program has been growing quickly, which means more seats and more people joining from elsewhere to learn from.
Deal quality has stepped up into large buyouts, so the mandates are not small just because the fund is outside Toronto.
Victoria and Vancouver based: the only major Canadian pension where you can build this career on the West Coast.
