Methodology
Rigour is the product.
BSO Intelligence turns scattered public information into structured intelligence. Every material fact shown in the product links to the source it came from: publisher, publication date, retrieval date and a link.
Source hierarchy
Tier AOfficialCompany websites, official biographies, career portals, press releases, annual reports, public filings (SEDAR+), transaction and portfolio announcements.
Tier BHigh-quality mediaThe Globe and Mail, Bloomberg, Reuters, Financial Post, The Logic, BNN Bloomberg and reputable trade publications.
Tier CBay Street OracleBSO's own reporting, where it exists and is discoverable.
Tier DCommunityPublicly accessible discussion on finance forums and communities, plus candidate interview reports compiled by BSO. Never presented as verified fact.
Where sources conflict, the higher tier wins and the conflict is noted. Where a fact cannot be verified, BSO omits it or labels it unavailable. It is never estimated to fill the interface.
Verification statuses
Verified · officialStated by the firm itself in an official (Tier A) source.
Verified · mediaReported by a high-quality (Tier B) publication.
ReportedReported by a single source that BSO could not corroborate.
Community reportedRaised in public community discussion. Unverified.
Candidate reportedFrom a candidate's own public account of an interview. Unverified.
InferredDerived by BSO from other sourced data (for example, an aggregate from official bios). Labelled as such.
UnverifiedStatus not yet established. Held in the review queue.
Community material never silently becomes verified. A community reported claim is only shown as fact if it is independently corroborated by a Tier A or B source, which is then cited directly.
Community and interview data
- · Only pages that are publicly accessible without logging in are used. BSO does not bypass authentication, paywalls, robots rules, rate limits or CAPTCHAs.
- · BSO does not run unrestricted crawlers against community sites. Public pages are discovered through compliant search and reviewed individually.
- · Candidate accounts are paraphrased in BSO's own words, including the questions people report being asked. Posts and paid datasets are never reproduced.
- · Each summary keeps its source URL so readers can judge the original context.
Data ethics and sourcing
- Public professional information only
- People profiles use official biographies and published reporting about professional roles. BSO does not build private dossiers.
- No private contact details
- BSO never publishes personal emails, phone numbers, home addresses or social profiles not tied to a professional role.
- Official photos only
- Headshots come only from the firm's own bio, leadership or press pages, where the photo is published next to the person's name. BSO never uses LinkedIn, social media or image-search results, and does not use facial recognition. Each photo credits its official source.
- Complete, or labelled partial
- Office lists are marked complete only when taken from a firm's official office listing or filing. Anything gathered elsewhere is shown as a partial list with its basis.
- Attribution throughout
- Every material fact links to its source; aggregate statistics state their sample size and method.
- Community ≠ fact
- Community and candidate material is labelled wherever it is shown.
- No circumvention
- No paywalls, logins, CAPTCHAs or technical access controls are bypassed, for any source.
- Corrections
- Anyone, including firms and the people profiled, can request a correction. Reports enter the editorial queue and are reviewed against original sources.
