Global Bank
One of Canada's oldest foreign banks (since 1919), with banking, markets and a Mississauga technology hub.
Citi has been in Canada since 1919, when First National City Bank of Canada opened in Montreal and Toronto. Today it operates through Citibank Canada (an OSFI-regulated foreign bank subsidiary), the Canadian branch of Citibank, N.A., and the dealer Citigroup Global Markets Canada Inc., among other entities. From offices in Toronto (head office), Mississauga, Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver it runs banking, capital markets and advisory, commercial banking, markets, securities services, treasury and trade solutions, private banking and Citi Cards Canada. Mississauga hosts a technology development centre opened in 2013. Recent Canadian work is mostly debt: co-dealer manager on Bell's 2026 debenture tender offers, agent on Sagicor's C$350 million notes, and bookrunner on RBC and BMO AT1 capital.

Reasons that work in interviews
4 reasons for Citi
Anchor the answer to the Toronto or Calgary office rather than the global brand. “Why Goldman” answered with global league tables is the single most common failure in this category.
Small Toronto platform inside the largest global footprint of any bank: unusual leverage per junior.
The global network and treasury franchise are the reason Canadian corporates with international operations use Citi, so the mandates skew cross-border.
Markets and banking sit closely together here, which is worth saying if your interest is financing structures rather than pure M&A.
Strong emerging markets reach, relevant for Canadian resource and infrastructure clients operating abroad.

Programs
Summer Analyst · Toronto
Ten weeks from June, opening with a week of training. Citi posts the Toronto investment banking summer analyst role on its own careers site; the 2026 class was posted in December 2025, so the cycle opens about eighteen months ahead.
Summer Analyst · Toronto
A separate Toronto posting from the investment banking one, into the Canadian Corporate Banking Corporates team. Worth applying to both: they are different teams and different applications.
Full-time Analyst · Toronto
The full-time Toronto analyst intake, posted separately from the summer programme — the 2027 class went up in July 2026.
