Founding partner of Toronto Tech Week
Golden Ventures is a founding partner of Toronto Tech Week, held June 23–27, 2025.

Venture Capital
Toronto seed-stage VC fund, founded in 2011, backing North American startups from pre-seed onward.
Golden Ventures is a Toronto-headquartered, sector-agnostic seed fund started by Matt Golden in 2011. It invests across Canada and the US and is currently deploying its US$100M Fund V, plus an Opportunity Fund, targeting 25–30 core investments per fund with initial cheques of roughly $500K–$2.5M. The investment team is small (partners plus one analyst), so for Canadian students it is a niche entry point to early-stage venture rather than a structured recruiting firm; its portfolio exits include Wattpad and Skip the Dishes.

Lead, co-lead or participating cheques in pre-seed to seed-extension rounds, sector-agnostic but tilted toward software-differentiated businesses, with reserves held for follow-ons.
A second vehicle the firm says it is deploying alongside Golden Ventures V; the FAQ gives no separate size or mandate.
A slice of each fund goes to smaller, more passive angel-style cheques in companies outside the core criteria.
Dedicated talent, platform/operations and finance staff who support portfolio companies with hiring, downstream capital and company building.
No official locations or contact page with an address. The site's organization data and FAQ say the fund is headquartered in Toronto; no other offices are published. This list may be incomplete.

Reasons that work in interviews
3 reasons for Golden Ventures
Venture interviews test sourcing and judgement rather than technicals. Bring a company they have not invested in and explain why you would back it, then name a portfolio company of theirs you find interesting and why. That does more than any structural reason.
One of the strongest Canadian seed brands, so the inbound deal flow is a real advantage for a junior learning to screen.
Pre-seed and seed focus means working with companies at their earliest and most formative stage.
Small, tight team in Toronto.

We’re collecting the real technical and behavioural questions candidates were asked at Golden Ventures, by role and office, and how each round runs.

How juniors get in
Hires occasionally for one analyst/associate seat, usually wanting two to four years in tech, banking or consulting, though its current Analyst joined while finishing undergrad after VC internships; no formal intern or MBA program.
Green: evidence it does. Struck through: evidence it doesn’t. Dashed: no public evidence either way.

Get your planCo-op / Off-cycle intern · Canada
Seed funds take interns on a rolling basis rather than a cycle, and the work is sourcing and diligence rather than modelling. A company you would back, argued well, does more than a resume here. BSO has not confirmed a timetable for Golden Ventures on an official page: this records that the intake exists and what the category's cycle looks like, not a published date. Confirm with the firm before you plan around it.
