Scotia Jarislowsky Fraser wealth brand
JF Private Wealth and Scotia Private Investment Counsel are scheduled to combine under the Scotia Jarislowsky Fraser name in Canada in 2026.

Investment Management
Scotiabank's Canadian institutional asset manager, built on a 1955 Montreal research boutique known for quality investing and governance activism.
Jarislowsky Fraser was founded in Montreal in 1955 as a securities research firm and grew into one of Canada's best-known institutional managers, with a reputation for quality-focused, research-driven investing and shareholder-governance advocacy. Scotiabank bought it in 2018. On 2025-11-01 JFL's business moved into 1832 Asset Management L.P. (Scotia Global Asset Management), and the name now covers the Canadian institutional business: more than $40 billion for pension funds, foundations, endowments, corporations and Indigenous communities. The private wealth side combines with Scotia Private Investment Counsel as Scotia Jarislowsky Fraser in 2026. For candidates, the in-house Global Investment Team of about 30 portfolio managers and analysts runs equity and fixed income research, with client teams in Toronto, Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver.

Reasons that work in interviews
3 reasons for Jarislowsky Fraser Institutional
The firm’s investment philosophy is published and almost no candidate reads it. Quoting a manager’s own stated criteria back to them, with one company you applied it to, beats any structural reason here. Say which part you agree with and, if you can defend it, one part you would push on.
Quality growth philosophy with a long history and a founder whose writing on governance is worth reading before the interview.
Montreal-based institutional mandates.
Scotiabank ownership with investment independence preserved.
