Canadian Investment Bank
Toronto-founded, conflict-free middle-market M&A boutique that has grown across Canada and into the US.
Origin Merchant Partners is an independent middle-market investment bank founded in Toronto in 2011. It does M&A advisory, capital raising (through its exempt-market-dealer affiliate Origin Merchant Securities Inc.), recapitalizations and restructurings, and selective merchant banking, without lending, underwriting, trading or research conflicts. It opened a Montreal office in 2022, combined with Chicago-based InterOcean Advisors the same year, added Vancouver coverage through CCC Investment Banking in 2025, and in July 2026 bought US consumer boutique Consensus. Recent Canadian mandates include advising Burgundy Asset Management on its sale to BMO and the special committee of Rupert Resources on its sale to Agnico Eagle. Its co-op program recruits business students for fall and winter terms.

Selective principal investing alongside clients to fund growth or bridge capital needs.
The official Contact page lists Toronto (199 Bay St), Montreal and Chicago. Other official pages also mention Vancouver coverage (added with CCC Investment Banking in 2025), a Calgary-based Managing Director, and Consensus offices in Boston and New York (acquired in 2026), none of which have addresses on the Contact page. The list may therefore be incomplete. This list may be incomplete.

Reasons that work in interviews
4 reasons for Origin Merchant Partners
Toronto and Chicago offices give genuine Canada-US mid-market cross-border flow, unusual for a firm this size.
Mid-market FIG work alongside diversified deals, so the sector exposure is real rather than opportunistic.
Mid-market focus means founder and family-owned sellers, where the advisory work is closer to counselling than process management.
Small team: you run analysis rather than support someone running it.

Origin Merchant Partners works as one generalist team: bankers staff deals across these sectors rather than joining a group, so there is no group to pick when you apply. Toronto-headquartered mid-market boutique organised around four product capabilities and ten industry sectors covered by individual Managing Directors, with a Quebec practice in Montreal; the site does not map most sectors to offices.
