Venture Capital
Small Vancouver-rooted pre-seed and seed fund backing mission-driven founders in new categories across North America, India and beyond.
Version One is a small early-stage venture firm led by founding partner Boris Wertz, who is based in Vancouver, and General Partner Angela Tran in the San Francisco Bay Area. It invests globally at pre-seed and seed, usually leading or co-leading rounds, in AI, robotics and physical AI, deep tech, biology and crypto, and also in emerging markets such as India and Africa. In June 2026 it closed Fund V (US$78M) and Opportunities Fund III (US$30M). Its featured portfolio includes Ada and Jobber, and it has backed Canadian fintechs Neo Financial (through its opportunity fund) and Loon, a Canadian-dollar stablecoin issuer. It is a three-person core team with no published analyst programme.

Reasons that work in interviews
3 reasons for Version One Ventures
Venture interviews test sourcing and judgement rather than technicals. Bring a company they have not invested in and explain why you would back it, then name a portfolio company of theirs you find interesting and why. That does more than any structural reason.
Vancouver seed fund with a published investment thesis around marketplaces, software and crypto networks: read the firm's writing, because engaging with it is the entire interview.
Deliberately small fund size, which keeps the strategy honest.
Strong US network from a Canadian base.
Coming soon
We’re collecting the real technical and behavioural questions candidates were asked at Version One Ventures, by role and office, and how each round runs.
When they’re in, they’ll be part of BSO Pro, which already has candidate reports for dozens of firms.
Interviewing there sooner than that? Get in touch and we’ll help you prepare.
How juniors get in
Three-person firm with no analysts or associates today and no open roles; it last posted a Vancouver analyst job in 2013, so treat it as a networking contact, not an application target.
Green: evidence it does. Struck through: evidence it doesn’t. Dashed: no public evidence either way.

Get your planCo-op / Off-cycle intern · Canada
Seed funds take interns on a rolling basis rather than a cycle, and the work is sourcing and diligence rather than modelling. A company you would back, argued well, does more than a resume here. BSO has not confirmed a timetable for Version One Ventures on an official page: this records that the intake exists and what the category's cycle looks like, not a published date. Confirm with the firm before you plan around it.
